Dear Oakdale Families,
Regular attendance is very important if students are to make good progress with their learning.
Regular school attendance means…
-
Rarely being absent from school (Never being absent is awesome!)
-
Attending 95% of school days (or better!)
-
No more than 8 absences for the school year (or less!)
-
Being on time for school, arriving no later than 7:55 a.m.
Attendance matters!
-
Chronically absent children in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.
-
Children who struggle to read by the end of 3rd grade are four times less likely to graduate from high school.
Ideas for Improvement…
-
Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
-
Make sure your child keeps a regular bedtime.
-
Lay out clothes, pack backpacks and lunches the night before.
-
Establish morning routines for getting ready for school.
-
Ensure your child goes to school every day unless they have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting.
What is your goal for your child’s attendance?
What plans and actions are necessary to achieve it?
Parents will be notified in writing when students have too many absences.
In addition to regular attendance, having your child arrive at school on time ready to begin class each day is very important.
